Spirit of Place, an exhibition of new works by the Austin, Texas-based design studio Yucca Stuff, is on view now in our San Francisco gallery.
Representing the unique vision of artist Daniel Morrison, the founder of Yucca Stuff, Spirit of Place highlights his ability to translate a practical material vocabulary into each object. A former architect and lifelong carpenter who trained at the University of Texas and the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Morrison creates works using craft as the foundation of a determined artistic vision.
A native of Texas, Morrison exhibits a profoundly emotional and thoroughly examined understanding of his home state, manifested in objects which employ materials that succinctly reference landscape and topography. Using sustainably sourced hardwoods and stone, Yucca Stuff designs investigate the character of domestic space. Each piece is intended to complement the quiet areas of the home, to grow better with age, and to be passed down with pride.
Drawing from the regional aesthetic and unique material palette found in central Texas, Yucca Stuff is committed to building modern classics. With Spirit of Place, Yucca Stuff has made a bold and inspired statement on the construction of place and how, through art and objects, it can be recreated in multiple, simultaneous environments.
Spirit of Place will be on view in our San Francisco gallery through August 5, 2022.
