Like many of Atelier Février’s remarkable designs, the Onda rug is an experiment in depth and texture. The piece’s creator Florian Pretet, whose elaborate drawings are bought to life by skilled artisans, sought to transcend the form’s two-dimensionality with a design of undulating horizontal and vertical lines that recall an Escher Staircase.
The rug, meticulously rendered through a process perfected by artisans in the Nepalese Himalayas, achieves a stronger sense of depth through its blend of 50% Tibetan wool and 50% fine Chinese silk. Bold, graphic and contemporary, yet exuding the warmth of the handmade, the rug is an elevated fusion of cultures and styles.
