Describing their own work as “warm contemporary,” Fort Standard uses traditional production methods and natural materials to design and fabricate furniture, lighting and interior objects. Founded by Gregory Buntain and Ian Collings, the Fort Standard design merges craft and design to create long-lasting objects with a structural simplicity embodied within distinct forms. An example of a piece embodying this style is a Fort Standard bottle opener.
Buntain and Collings became friends and collaborators while attending Pratt Institute, founding their studio in 2011. Besides features in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal Wallpaper* and Surface Magazine, Fort Standard has produced work for MoMA PS1, 1882, SCP and Areaware.
