Lee West

Lee West is a British designer and the founder of Lee West Objects. In collaboration with the Carl Auböck Workshop in Vienna, Austria, Lee West Objects produces luxury home goods and objects exhibiting first class quality and design. Exclusive pieces coveted for their precise artistry, West’s design work marries modernity with a refined artisanal touch.

Born in 1976, West studied product design at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication in London, graduating in 1999. Named the “Best Young English Designer of The Year” in 1999 by The Times newspaper, West spent the next five years in Paris collaborating with leading design agencies on a myriad of product design projects, including cosmetics, electronics, and a variety of designer goods.

Between 2000 and 2003, West designed with the centdegres Agency, where his expertise was applied to concept computers, street furniture, and perfume bottles. In 2001, his Toggle lamp, which incorporated flexible fabric, was the first to be produced by Cinna, followed by the Clip panoramic mirror, designed in polished stainless steel, which was produced later in 2002.

In 2004, West collaborated with iconic firm Ligne Roset, to produce the Bud collection of lights, a design of white borosilicate. He also worked with Cinna, to design Supernova, a free-standing light with hand blown glass details. Currently, West is an independent designer collaborating with, and under, the influence of Austrian modernist designer Carl Auböck. The company, run by Carl Auböck IV, currently operates in a townhouse in Vienna, and the collaboration with West has produced a range of objects, including a table lamp, a candlestick, a watering cane, and a brass jewellry box.

West’s latest series includes three exclusive items: a bottle opener, corkscrew, and rollerball pen, all of which are crafted in brass and exhibit the artist’s well-known affinity for material harmony and small-batch production. Rigorous in their execution, these luxury pieces fuse raw material design and modern elements to create work that resonates across the design world globally.

West’s work has been on display throughout New York, London, and Paris, among others. He has collaborated with luxury brands such as Hermès and Ligne Roset, and has been featured in The New York Times, Designboom, Dezeen, and numerous others.
