He gained significant attention with his graduation project, the Classic Cabinet in Scrapwood, which laid the foundation for his signature style. Eek's work is characterized by the use of reclaimed materials, particularly scrapwood, and a commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly design practices. In 1992, Piet Hein Eek founded his own design studio in Geldrop together with his friend Nob Ruijgrok, and later relocated to an old Philips factory in Eindhoven. This space not only serves as his workshop and studio but also houses a showroom, a shop, two restaurants, a hotel with rooftop bar, a fry shop, art gallery and several design studios, creating a vibrant hub for design and creativity.
