Fair Trade Basket Collection

For Vietnamese woodworkers, palm wood is a beautiful and rapidly growing commodity. The disadvantage of this wood is that it quickly warps, but Piet Hein Eek came up with a special design to solve this problem. The baskets are made of thin slats strung together. This enables them to shrink and expand while the product remains intact.

Widely used in Southeast Asia, these types of containers could work as fruit bowls, dinner table centerpieces, or just to hold whatever is needed. Each piece is handcrafted in a Vietnamese family-owned workshop according to Fair Trade principles. The wooden slabs are tightened with wire and knotted using a technique developed by the village’s fisherman.
