Postcard from Iceland: from TFP Founder David Alhadeff

October 11, 2016

Iceland is really one of those places that had always intrigued me - a destination that evokes a combination of mystery, awe and sheer out-of-this world visuals. In many way, it’s about as far from New York City as you could imagine (though the flight to get there is blissfully short).

While it’s becoming increasingly popular - as both a destination for design lovers, great hotels as well as its natural staggering beauty, it’s a place I had always wanted to visit. Iceland did not disappoint to say the very least.

Iceland is a place of remarkable first impressions and enduring memories. I was struck by how dramatic the landscape could change in such a short amount of time. We would travel from a beautiful, ultra-lush landscape with waterfalls to pastoral scenes of sheep grazing to monumental glaciers in less than an hour - it sounds impossible, but that was exactly how our visit ended up. The land in Iceland is young and it feels young. The geothermal activity made it feel raw and untempered, which is something very few destinations offer. The summer season offers some of the most beautiful hiking I've ever done and the sense of remoteness was a welcome break from my real life back in Manhattan.
