Like much of Rachel Whiteread's work, her Daybed is influenced by the formality of modern furniture design while being inextricably tied to her childhood experiences. Whiteread's study of the void surrounding a given object is embodied in this custom-made, upholstered daybed that takes the form of the empty space beneath a twin bed. Built with a solid beech frame and multi-density foams covered in a wool Bute fabric, this design is as comfortable as it is dynamic.
