Karl Zahn’s Bower Bird / Narcissus, rendered in hand-formed aluminum, builds upon his ongoing series of avian-inspired sculptures. Swooping aluminum forms curve with a sense of poised movement, like the wings of a bird mid-flight. The subtitle Narcissus references the Greek myth of beauty, arrogance, and the mirrored image, inviting the viewer to consider the vessel not only as a container but as a site of reflection. Here, the shimmer of a reflecting pool is held within the jug itself, light catching and echoing across its many ‘wings’.
