Stine Mikkelsen is part of a new generation of designers, who work in the field between craft and design, innovation and tradition. Her designs are developed with focus on new ways of understanding and utilizing both materials and design processes. In that way she bridges the gap between several technical disciplines and genres with new typologies as result. "As the title for the exhibition/brief is Open and Closed, it was important for me, to not only make boxes, but also lids for these. I wanted the lids to be just as equal/independent objects as the boxes. Lids are often an add-on to a box, but I wanted them to interact/interplay with the boxes, which have given inspiration to the various, unique shapes. The lids can both be seen as lids to the boxes and/or simply smaller pieces of art to hang on a wall. The three containers are all made of a composite material developed by the studio. It is based on crushed green marble, quartz sand, and fish glue. The lids are made of brushed aluminum."
