This 1940's rustic French Milking Stool is a work of functional design that was made to assist in "Dairying", which was traditionally Women's work. The short, tripod legs created a low center of gravity and the small scale allowed for portability. This piece makes visible both the labor of its maker and that of its intended user (often one and the same woman).
