After the worldwide success of Scrapwood Wallpaper, Piet Hein Eek and NLXL introduce “Materials”, comprising 8 contemporary designs. Again this collection creates a magnificent trompe l’oeil effect. Rick Vintage, Creative Director NLXL: “This new collection emphasizes our traditional way of working together with Piet Hein Eek. We have reproduced everyday materials, like stone, wood and marble. We are certain that this new collection will find its way to both consumers and projects all over the world.” Piet Hein Eek: “A lot of companies have made marble reproduction products, but never in the way we envisioned it. So we decided to give it a try. When the printing proofs came in we had the exact same thrill as we had five years earlier with the Scrapwood Wallpaper. You just want to install it everywhere.” When they cut marble they cut slabs of stone, if you take two consecutive slabs and flip them you get a mirror image. There is one roll of marble wallpaper, another roll that’s the mirror image of it, and in marble they call this book matching. The concept ‘Book Matching’ can be applied starting at two rolls. You can create a wall as shown in the third image (mirrored strips) ordering a regular roll (PHM-51 A) and a mirrored roll (PHM-51 B).
