Riikka Piippo is a Finnish ceramic artist and designer whose work bridges the timeless and the contemporary. With a deep appreciation for the meditative quality of traditional handbuilding techniques, Piippo’s practice is driven by a dedication to pushing the material’s limits while preserving its inherent character.
The Epitome series is rooted in archetypal vessel forms from different cultures and historical periods. The designs feature details influenced by the Danish photographer Karl Blossfeldt’s botanical close-ups and plant motifs from ancient Roman architecture.

Focused, Piippo spends time with the material, allowing the elements to effortlessly find their final place and form. She has also developed custom glazes for the Epitome series, incorporating metal oxides to achieve a matte surface with a subtle patina effect.
