An architect who is passionate about research, Luca Erba is also a product designer with a strong commitment to craftsmanship, especially as it relates to his home region, Lombardy, in Italy. In Lombardy, he drew his inspiration from the Variegato Lombardo secular tradition, a tile made of mixed clay, to design “Terra”. This 16th-century technique is based on blending and joining two different types of clay. During the firing, each of them reveals very subtle veins and a beautiful interlacing of colors: reds, tangerines, and pale yellows. Luca Erba revisits this tradition here with a small piece of furniture that appears to be cut from one mass. The result is a handmade, sculpted block, which makes each piece unique.
