Inspired by the Moon Jars of Korea, Yang-D’Haene creates the beauty of shadow of the surface by intentionally formulating chemical reactions between glaze, clay and slip. Often the result of four to five times firing with different glazes, Yang-D’Haene captures the memory of moon jars from the past, present and future with surface and color. Round but not always the same shape, white but not always the same color, moon jars have fascinated connoisseurs and artists since the 17th century. Embodying the aesthetics of simplicity and elegance, moon jars have often been associated with an indigenous Korean identity.
