Seungjin Yang

Seungjin Yang June 18, 2025 - Ongoing

Seungjin Yang transforms the temporary into the timeless. Known for his sculptural furniture crafted from resin-coated balloons, the Seoul-based artist reshapes how we perceive volume, material, and play. What at first appears weightless and fragile—a cluster of inflated forms—reveals itself as structurally sound, permanent, and strikingly crafted.

In this online exhibition, The Future Perfect presents a curated selection of Yang’s most iconic designs, all currently in stock and available for acquisition. From the bold forms of the Blowing Armchair series to the compact and playful Blowing Stool variations, each piece captures a unique tension: between softness and solidity, childlike wonder and meticulous craftsmanship.

Growing up amid Korea’s mountainous landscapes, Yang developed an early connection to natural form and impermanence. After earning his BA at Hongik University in 2013, he began exploring balloons as a sculptural medium—not for their symbolism, but for their potential as structure. His process involves inflating balloons into precisely composed arrangements, then repeatedly coating them with epoxy resin to lock the forms in time.

This body of work also charts Yang’s evolution from monochrome restraint to a confident embrace of color and transparency. Pieces like the Multicolor Blowing Dining Chair or the Neon Orange Stool evoke a kind of levity rarely found in design objects, inviting viewers to reimagine the role of play in contemporary art and collectible design.

Seungjin Yang is not only a designer but a sculptor of sensation—where memory, material, and motion are suspended in each glossy surface.
