An architect who is passionate about research, Luca Erba is also a product designer with a strong commitment to craftsmanship, especially as it relates to his home region, Lombardy, in Italy. In Lombardy, he drew his inspiration from the Variegato Lombardo secular tradition, a tile made of mixed clay, to design “Terra”. This 16th century technique is based on blending and joining two different types of clay. During the firing, each of them reveals very subtle veins and a beautiful interlacing of colors: reds, tangerines, and pale yellows. Luca Erba revisits this tradition here with a small piece of furniture which appears to be cut from one mass. The result is a handmade, sculpted block, which makes each piece unique.
