Keiko Ivonne’s Strata I uses the Japanese nerikomi technique to create masonry in miniature. Layers of colored clay are stacked, compressed, and sliced to reveal patterns resembling water, rock, and sediment, with no two ornaments ever alike. The ornaments are finished with coiled handles that recall the volutes of classical columns and moire ribbons.
