Thaddeus Wolfe’s Untitled 2 belongs to his Assemblage series, a body of work shaped by mineral formations, early twentieth-century architecture, and modern art. Combining glassblowing and casting, Wolfe begins with an improvised sculpture of broken and carved Styrofoam, which is translated into a single-use plaster mold. Layers of colored glass are blown into its cavity, then selectively carved and polished to expose the strata within. Because its mold is destroyed in the process, each work is entirely unique.
