Floris Wubben

Founded in 2009 and based in Haarlem, the Netherlands, Studio Floris Wubben operates at the intersection of functional art, sculptural design, and experimental production. What began as an exploration of form and material has since evolved into a highly recognizable design language, defined by bold gestures, raw tactility, and a deep engagement with process.

The studio is best known for its pioneering work in ceramic extrusion, carried out on custom-built machines that transform traditional techniques into innovative methods of making. By designing and engineering these machines themselves, the studio introduces an element of automation and unpredictability into the act of creation. Each object reflects a delicate balance between the natural qualities of the material, the mechanical process, and the guiding hand of the designer.

This approach results in distinctive pieces that challenge conventional distinctions between art, craft, and design. Sculptural yet functional, the works embody both spontaneity and control, offering new perspectives on how materials can be shaped and understood.
Beyond ceramics, Studio Floris Wubben continues to push the boundaries of production and material research. The studio’s creations have been exhibited internationally and are part of esteemed collections, recognized for their capacity to merge experimental innovation with a striking aesthetic presence.

At its core, the studio is driven by a constant pursuit of fresh interpretations—reimagining what design can be when process, material, and craftsmanship meet in unexpected ways.
