Olivia Cognet

From Nice to Paris, via Los Angeles—where she lived for several years before settling in Vallauris, the renowned city of clay—French sculptor Olivia Cognet has forged a creative path free from both geographical and formal boundaries.

Driven by an independent spirit and a profound passion for sculpture, modern architecture, and organic forms, Cognet relentlessly explores every scale and typology. For her, every architectural element becomes the support for a rich and fertile imagination. A swimming pool, a fireplace, a fountain, a fire pit, or a sofa can all be transformed into fully realized works of art, sculptural, yet sensual and poetic. In her hands, materials constantly take on new dimensions and expressions. She transforms ceramics with the utmost care, paying particular attention to the subtlety of glazes, and approaches stone, marble, lava, metal, plaster, and wood with the same passion.

Among her artistic influences are Constantin Brancusi and Isamu Noguchi. In Vallauris, Cognet creates daily in an environment infused with the creative legacy of Pablo Picasso and Roger Capron. She has taken over Capron’s former studio, transforming it into both her workshop and showroom. Nourished by a constant exploration of craftsmanship, she moves effortlessly between sculptural objects, furniture, and immersive architectural interventions, continually pushing technical and formal boundaries. Inspired by Le Corbusier’s concept of the synthesis of the arts and by Lucio Fontana’s philosophy of the Spatial Concept, she weaves an invisible thread through all her creations, establishing a continuous dialogue within space. A wall becomes a surface to sculpt, paint, or model; architecture becomes an extension of artistic expression. Art and architecture merge into a single language, driven by an irrepressible desire: to poetize life and the everyday.
