The chair is a solid, cast bronze shell. The mold for the cast was made from a cementitious shell formed over the same inflatable mold used to create the Disco Chair. The bronze is left raw, completely untreated to let the chair age slowly in place. Unlike the Disco Chair that shows the passing of time with a daylight show, the Bronze Shell Chair is meant to show the slow passing of time through the wear of its users and environment. It is meant to be left unpolished, showing all its wear as a reminder that time moves in only one direction, and that once lost, time can never be recovered.
