Rachel Shillander

Known for her 2020 Disco Chair, L.A.'s Rachel Shillander is an artist and architect whose practice is focused on domestic design, construction, and building technology. Through the objectification of architectural concepts as a metaphor, her studio works explore intangible ideas of ethics, nostalgia, place, time, interpersonal relationships, and the human condition.

By using familiar materials, forms, and traditional building systems, these abstract concepts are turned into accessible scale, semi-functional maquettes. She was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, California where she currently lives, works, and practices.
