Chris Wolston’s Tyrona Tootz are part of his Fetish Lights series. Wolston imagines his Fetlish Lights as a meeting between cave painting and a space-age artifact. The figure begins with an archetypal gesture, Wolston punches his fingers into sand, embeds fragments of blown glass and copper, then fills the mold with molten glass. This process was informed by the handmade brick factory near his studio in Medellín. Looped neon traces the body like an alien cave drawing, a futuristic material bent by hand with the same immediacy as an ancient mark.
