Having grown up in Australia, designer Brodie Neill has always gravitated towards natural forms and how they can be recast as functional design. One of his most recognizable designs is The Cowrie Collection – comprising a Chair and Rocker - each inspired by the curvilinear form of a seashell. The piece’s organic shape is the result of extensive research and technical innovation, which, true to Made in Ratio’s studio philosophy, bridges the handmade with the digital. Sweeping lines are displayed in a gentle, single surface monocoque fold. Perfectly proportioned, the all-in-one structure is formed in bent plywood with either a walnut or a natural or ebonised ash veneer from certified sustainable sources. The result: an arresting piece of usable art that doubles as a reliable easy chair or elegant rocking lounger.
