Lindsey Adelman presents Hieros Gamos, an exhibition of new illuminated mobiles at The Future Perfect’s Los Angeles location, The Goldwyn House. Introduced during Lindsey Adelman Studio’s twentieth year, Hieros Gamos marks a new chapter in her exploration of balance, movement, and symbolic language. The exhibition delves into an increasingly alchemical and mythic realm, taking its title from the concept of sacred union—the joining of divine masculine and feminine energies, inner and outer worlds, and ancient and contemporary sensibilities.
Hieros Gamos comprises ten unique suspended mobiles and two sconces, each formed from a pared-back armature of metal tubing and coaxial cable that quietly supports a constellation of glass orbs and ceramic canopies inscribed with hand-drawn symbols in gold enamel. Each mobile incorporates a single mineral, chosen as both a visual and symbolic anchor, alongside glass forms that act as a canvas for Adelman’s visual language that feels at once ancient and intuitive. As air subtly circulates, the mobiles respond with gentle, continuous movement, altering the emotional atmosphere of a room.
Hand-drawn symbols extend a visual language long present in Adelman’s practice, one that continues to evolve through this exhibition. Neither literal nor prescriptive, the symbols gesture toward universal impulses and shared states of being, feeling at once ancient and intuitive. Viewers are not asked to decode or “understand” the symbols, but to recognize, intuit, and connect with them on a personal level.
In these works, belief takes suspended form: intimate worlds unto themselves, gently shifting, unresolved, and alive in space. The collection represents a mature synthesis of technical mastery and intuitive inquiry—an exploration of how objects for the home can protect, uplift, and quietly expand our sense of the unseen.
